La Romeria de Caños Santos

A short thirty minute drive today to the "Convento de Caños Santos" to take part in the Romeria celebrations of the nearby pueblo of Alcalá del Valle.
The event celebrates the patron of the village, the "Virgen del Valle" (Lady of the Valley) and the early morning procession from Alcalá to the ancient convent, now a disused building, is a prelude to a day of music, dancing, eating and drinking and just general good fun with family and friends.
This year is also special as it's also the 500th anniversary of the opening of the convent in 1512. The location offers spectacular views.

The beautifully ornate carriage on which the Virgen was transported.

La Virgen del Valle.

When we arrived at about 2.15pm, the party was in full swing.

Having a great time.

We walked around for an hour or more enjoying the fantastic atmosphere, far better conveyed than my pictures in the article here written by Brendan Sainsbury
